NTUC Deputy Secretary-General Heng Chee How shared that senior workers are concerned about skills obsolescence and the lack of equal training opportunities and proposed some ways to help them remain employable.
Speaking at the Budget Debate on 27 February 2024, NTUC Deputy Secretary-General Heng Chee How called for the next phase of raising the retirement and reemployment ages by 2026 to reach the target of 65 and 70 respectively by 2030.
To provide senior workers with equal training opportunities, he echoed NTUC Deputy Secretary-General Desmond Tan’s call for employers to form Company Training Committees with NTUC to train workers of all ages in relevant skills.
He also urged the Government to strengthen the caregiving ecosystem to enable senior workers to better manage caregiving responsibilities.
